  • DAMSELFRAU

Magnhild Kennedy aka “Damselfrau” ARTIST’S STATEMENT “I work with masks as autonomous works of art as well as action-objects. For me the mask is a place where different elements come together as situation. The work is about this place-situation, more so than the mask as a theme or category of form. The mask is a place. I use found as well as self-produced material. I have used fine lace, carried by the nineteen century Norwegian author Camilla Collett, hair from two-hundred year old Japanese geisha hair pieces as well as everyday stuff, found in the street. I am an autodidact and find great pleasure in solving technical problems in the making of my work. A half improvised solving of a factual problem is for me more satisfying than a conventional take on a known material or technique. I am led by the phantasms appearing in the process of the making and the materials themselves. These guide my decisions and inform the objects I make. The becoming of character as play, in between the theatrical projective and the actual of the veil, has the effect that the masks equally are subject to the projection of others as well as my own. It is in this space that the objects exist and where I find new ones.” Website  /  Instagram

  • BELIN

Miguel Ángel Belinchón Bujes, a.k.a.  Belin  was born in Linares, Spain, in 1979. He started to work very hard painting in the street, he had a dream and he needed to do everything he could do to be the great artist he is now. All his sculptures and painting have been displayed in museums, galleries and walls around Spain and different countries like America. After a recent trip to Pablo Picasso’s birthplace, his work has begun to adopt elements of cubism .  His works are often based on loved ones, breaking up elements of their faces in order to recompose eyes, ears, and mouths into distorted configurations. Although many of his newer works have moved to canvas, he is still very much involved with making work in the public realm, like the above mural he created for last year’s  Meeting of Styles’ festival  in Cancun, Mexico. Find out more on  BELIN  on his personal  website  or on  Instagram .

  • MALIK ROBERTS

MALIK ROBERTS (b. 1990, Brooklyn, NY) is a Brooklyn based painter and multimedia artist creating works of figurative abstraction, which address contemporary social issues like police brutality, exclusionary politics, and systemic racism. Prismatic fragmentations of form, his deconstructed portraits convey complexities and tensions too-often masked by his subjects’ appearance. His work has been covered by publications including: The Washington Post , Hyperallergic , PAPER , Whitewall Magazine , and Milk . Roberts has collaborated with brands like American Express, Nike, Adidas, and Bombay Sapphire. Roberts manipulates recognizable images and conventions from art history and the media to dismantle the viewer’s perception of reality. The artist begins by breaking down a familiar-feeling icon or landscape into its most basic geometric forms. He then reconstructs the picture, layering charged source imagery onto the geometric x-ray of his subjects. In this unique artistic language, Robert’s articulates haunting similarities between reality and caricature as fluently as he expresses their spiritual dissonance. Presenting scenes all too familiar, the artist invites new ways of seeing. Unlike the reductive rabble-rousing typical of Digital Age media, Roberts portrays his subject’s internal and external conflicts with kaleidoscopic effect. His sophisticated handling of form and content adjusts for our humanity, recasting once-linear narratives as revelatory meditations on the creaking mechanics of justice. • RIT KIT

Rita / creator of  #liveleaftattoo @bunga.book is ready for pre-order 📍Lisbon, from Ukraine🇺🇦 “My name is Rita and for the past 6 years, I’ve been crossing my passion for nature and tattooing. I started tattooing in 2014, a year later in 2015 I invented my own technique #liveleaftattoo. Most of the time I’m traveling around the world. Сurrently in Bali, researching and writing a book about plants. As an artist, I enjoy doing permanent paintings with a unique brush and canvas. I literally paint bodies with a needle from nature — the two beautifully compliment each other. As a former architect, I like to explore the structure and form of both plants and bodies, finding just the right complementary pairing between the two. As a nature-lover, I want to inspire people to take a closer look at nature, to see all the imperfections and nuances and details. I copy it as precisely as I can because every single leaf embodies perfection as it is, in my opinion. If I turn the viewer’s attention away from our technological, artificial, 21st-century world and back towards nature even for a bit, I have accomplished my mission. As a tattooer, I like to use old techniques in new ways, presenting my own interpretation on tattooing while expanding the art at large too. I like to subvert the stereotypes of what a tattoo should look like. I believe the body is perfect as it is; my goal is to subtly highlight the aesthetic of our natural shapes and lines. As an innovator, I am always wondering, what’s next?” Follow Rit.Kit on Instagram
